Courtney Snyder has been appointed as the new Music Director of the Nebraska Wind Symphony. We are very excited to have her on the podium! She begins regular rehearsals with NWS on Monday, November 30, 2009.

Congratulations to Debra Lund, tenor sax for receiving the NE State Bandmasters Outstanding Administrator Award for 2009. Deb is a teacher/ administrator with Music in Catholic Schools (MCS), a parent paid band program offered in over 30 Catholic and Lutheran schools in the Omaha area. Deb has been with the program since its beginning and administrator for the past 27 years. Deb was nominated by and received letters of recommendation from her teaching staff, parents, board members, and administrators of the schools served by MCS. Congratulations on this well deserved award!
NOTE - NWS has partnered with Music In Catholic Schools several times over the years for our annual All-Star Students concert.
2008 Scholarship Recipient
Cameron Blazek is the recipient of the first scholarship. Cameron is attending the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He graduated from Bellevue East at the top of his class of 365 and has been on the UNO Dean's list for the last two years. Cameron plays alto, tenor, and baritone saxophone as well as clarinet and basson. He has been a member of the UNO Marching Mavericks, Jazz II Ensemble, University Band, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and the UNO Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Congratulations Cameron!
NWS has taken the initial steps to establish a scholarship fund by which to remember departed playing members. Larry MacTaggart, former NWS Music Director and composer, graciously donated his commission fee as seed money. Matching gifts have been raised from playing members and other friends of NWS. More information will be published in Fall 2007 regarding the application process. If you are interested in giving to this fund, please send monetary gifts to the address listed on our contact page.
